Hi everyone. Creative Radiance Designs is now re-open for business. I hope you enjoyed the holiday season and New Year. I have some general plans set in place for Creative Radiance 2012.

First of all, I'm going to be offering custom orders during certain seasons. For Winter 2012, the following will be offered:

Baby Hat Sets
Character Hats for Baby and Toddlers - Including Bunny Hats for my Easter Special
Stocking Caps for Baby and Toddlers
Wool Diaper Covers and Longies

Stock Items: I've also decided to bring back a stock of inventory to be available for general sales throughout the year. At this time, I'm planning to utilize the blog and the Facebook page to advertise what's available for sale. In the near future, there will be a link above with cycling inventory. Stock items will be a variety of knit, crochet and fabric items.

Private/Group Lessons: I am now accepting students for private and group knitting and crochet lessons. This is still an evolving process, but I plan to make a full post on this as soon as the details are more concrete. In the future I hope to offer some in-home sewing machine basics classes as well. If you are interested in private/group lessons, please let me know as soon as possible. I have a limited number of spots available.

Local Photographers Special Rates: I believe that as local business owners we should do our best to keep our local economy thriving. In an effort to help other local businesses, I'm offering special rates for local photographers wishing to purchase knit or crochet hats or prop items.If you are a local photographer, please contact me for specific information.

Designs - It's my goal this year to design and publish at least 5 patterns, some free and some paid patterns.

Blog - Last year I promised to blog more often and with topics other than just business items and then I failed miserably. Life got chaotic and I lost balance in a lot of areas. I'm going to attempt more intentional blogging this year. I'd like to incorporate of few of my experiences with natural and handmade living, along with those posts about things that inspire me. This year I'm planning to experiment with dyeing and spinning on a wheel so I hope that I can take time to document those experiences. Plus I've got plans to review a few products, new yarns and books.

How to Care for Wool Diaper Covers and Longies

I recently got a custom order request for some wool longies. Wool is a great alternative for a cloth diaper cover up because it wicks away moisture, it's breathable and it has an incredible ability to absorb wetness and still feel NOT feel damp (up to 30% of it's weight). Wool covers have been used for centuries by cloth diapering mommas.

Many people use them simply as wool pants because they are quite warm and so cute. Here's one of the pairs I made. Looks just like Little Elf pants, huh?

The question I most often get though is "How do I care for them? Are they hard to wash?" So I'll attempt to explain how I wash them and then lanolize them. Lanolin is a natural substance sheep have while the fleece is still on their back that makes the wool waterproof. When wool is processed and dyed, this lanolin is stripped away and so in order to have those waterproof properties, you have to add it back to the wool.

This is a relatively simple process that takes just a few minutes of time. Yes wool covers are hand-washed, but you don't need to wash them that often. Most of the time, you can simply allow them to dry and air out after being soiled and reuse them. As long as they aren't soiled with poo or smell like urine, you'll only need to wash them once a week or so. (This depends on how many you have in rotation as well. If you use them more often, they'll need washing more often.)

Washing Wool
Wool should only be washed in a wool wash of some sort. Woolite is NOT to be used with your delicate hand-knits or covers. Woolite contains several chemicals that can cause HARM to your knits. Save that for your delicate lingerie (that I'm sure not many mothers of young children are washing anymore). You can use baby shampoo or wash in a pinch, but those need to be rinsed out. Soak is my favorite wool wash, not only because I love the scents available, but because it doesn't have to be rinsed out. Other popular wool washes are Eucalan and Kookaburra and can be found online or at your local yarn store.

Step by Step:

1. Drop a few drops of wool wash into a basin or in your sink. Fill the sink with warm water. You don't want your water boiling hot or lukewarm, somewhere in between in nice.

2. Remove any solid waste and place your woolies into the water. Gently press them under the water. Don't vigorously agitate them around. Wool is quite delicate when wet and you don't want to permanently felt your woolies. Be kind to them and allow them to soak up the water and wash. Allow your woolies to sit in the water for about 15 minutes.

At this point, you can tell whether you need lanolize them or not. If you notice that water is standing in a lot of little puddles on your woolies and/or the woolies are floating above the water, then you don't need to lanolize yet. If there's just a few little puddles or none at all, then it's time to lanolize them.

One unique tidbit to add....Wool has a very distinct smell while wet. Some people say it smells like a wet dog. The smell goes away entirely once its dry so don't be alarmed. Your finished product will smell like the wool wash you washed it in. It's something you get used to quickly. I'd just advise not taking a big whiff after getting your wool out of the water. :-)

3. When you come to check on your woolies, you can swish them around in the water a bit more. I like to leave my woolies in the water until the water has returned to close to room temperature, but you can take them out at this point if you'd like. I'd leave them in longer if they were heavily soiled.

4. Pull the drain from your sink or start pouring the water out of your basin. Hold onto your knits so they don't go down the drain or out of your basin. Gently fold your woolies together into a small little square in your hand. Gently press with the opposite hand to push out excess water. DON'T wring your woolies or aggressively squish them. Remember that wool is delicate when wet.

5. Grab a towel and lay them out like this.

6. Now we're going to make a jelly roll with the towel. Once you get it all rolled up, use both hands to press down and squeeze out excess water. You'll be shocked at how much water actually comes out of the wool at this point.

7. If you're woolies are still super wet, you can repeat step 5 and 6 with a dry towel. Most of the time one roll in a towel will do. Now find a sweater dryer rack to lay them out flat to dry or place them on a dry towel and rotate sides often. DO NOT machine dry these or your child will no longer be able to wear them because they'll be a shrunken felted mess.

Here's the sweater dryer I made out of some PVC pipes, elbows, some mesh fabric that I sewed into a cover and some elastic cord to hold the cover on. I made mine large enough to hold a plus size adult sweater. It's around 3 feet square and cost around $5-$6 to make. At some point I'd love to find some way to add some legs to it, but for now drying over the tub works well for me.

How to Lanolize Your Covers

As stated above in the washing instructions, when you're cover is no longer water resistant it's time to lanolize. You should be able to wash your cover several times before needing to lanolize. You'll need 4 things to lanolize: a small bottle with a lid (mine is a pump, but I don't use the pump), lanolin (mine is Lansinoh, the one breast feeding mothers use), a drop of baby shampoo and warm water.

Step 1: Take your small bottle, remove the lid , place a pea sized squirt of lanolin in the bottle and a drop of baby shampoo. Fill the bottle with the hottest tap water you can.

Step 2: Put the lid on your little bottle and shake for a few minutes. You are trying to melt the lanolin. Once the lanolin has melted you'll have a creamy frothy mixture.

Step 3: Empty your mixture into the sink or basin that you plan to use. Fill your sink or basin with warm water. Swirl the water and make sure the mixture is well incorporated.

Step 4: Gently push the woolies into the water and let sit for at least 15 minutes.

Step 5: Now repeat #4-7 from the washing instructions.

So there you have it. All the care instructions you'll need to wash and lanolize your wool diaper covers and longies. As a side note, its quite natural for your woolies to become a bit felted in the spots that your child rubs often, like knees for your crawling ones and bottoms if you've got a scooter. This won't affect the performance at all.

Christmas Custom Orders

Wow have I been busy the past two months on custom orders ! Thanks to all who've made a purchase this season. Due to the overwhelming response, I'm going to be closing custom orders a week early. There's 3 more hat slots available and these will be open until November 18th at 6pm EST. After that I'll be on holiday break till Jan. 15th.

I've decided to leave the newborn hat and sock special available throughout the winter. You may still place these orders throughout the break, but they won't be started until Jan. 15th. So if you are looking for a nice little handmade set to give to a new mother and baby, please send me an email and we'll begin discussing what you'd like.

Also remember that I do take other kinds of custom orders per customer request as well. Please note that I take these on a case by case basis. If you are interested in something, please send me an email or leave a note on the Facebook page.

It's That Time Again

Family Matters

Just wanted to post a quick update and announcement..... Due to some personal family matters going on right now, I'll be taking a break from Creative Radiance Designs for a bit. I'm the primary care giver for a family member who needs me right now, so I can't be all things to everyone. In my absence I plan to work on some personal projects and do some design sketching. Some Maintenance Matters

This will be brief. I just wanted to inform you all that my Portfolio link above isn't showing all my pictures. My ISP changed companies a few months ago and with that change came several changes that directly affected Creative Radiance. One of which is that I no longer have a Pro Flickr account. I received no notification from my ISP of this change, but apparently it took place last week. Only a few of my portfolio pics can be accessed right now. When I purchase a Pro subscription the old pictures will be viewable again. Sorry for any confusion that may have caused. I hope to have everything back up again soon. A few pictures are viewable on the Facebook page and I'll be loading new ones shortly.

The links bar above will be changing soon as well. I'll be adding a couple new categories with a new design. Please bare with me as these changes take place.

Web traffic - I've reviewed my web traffic lately and have found some interesting finds. However, my comments aren't reflecting any traffic at all, which leads me to wonder if there are any readers out there. I'm not requiring comments, but if you visit often I'd appreciate it if you'd please leave a comment every now and then.

In the Studio : Designing and Business Plans

I've been working like a mad woman trying to get some designs out for my local summer markets. As a last minute decision, I decided to join the local Artisan's Market. It's a once a month market as opposed to the weekly market I've done in the past. I thought this would give me time to keep up with stock and personal knitting/crafting as well.

Lately my days have been full of scribbling rough sketches, swatching up yarns, and tons of number crunching. Each time I sit down to start a new design, I can't help but think of every math teacher I've ever had. All those hours of time I spent doing equations, percentages, etc, well they actually WERE in preparation for my future. Oh and those funny looking charts...who knew that there was a legitimate real life use for those? I sure didn't, but I do now. Gotta say I have a new-found respect for those teachers and there work.

Lately I've been working on lace shawls. I'm happy to report that I finished one this week. It's the largest thing I've designed to date and also my first time knitting with beads. There were times during the design that I wanted to rip it out because it was not turning out how I expected. But oh I'm so glad I didn't because once I bound it off and pulled it off the needles I absolutely LOVED it. It was one of those *gasp* I made that? kinda moments. I actually gasped outloud and it was even better after I blocked it. This design will hopefully be a published pattern.

In the next few weeks, I'll be looking for some test knitters. Most of the information will be posted on the Ravelry group (which will be linked here on the blog soon). Basically a test knitter is someone who gets a copy of the pattern before its officially published. The test knitter will choose a suitable yarn from their stash and knit up the pattern. While going through the pattern, the test knitter will note any errors they find and point out any areas that may not be clearly stated. Basically a test knitter does the job of a tech editor. Compensation for the test knitter is the completed error free pattern and their sample knit. I will only ask for a photo of the sample knit from my pattern and that the knitting be kept completely secret until the pattern is published. If you are interested in being a test knitter, please leave a comment below with your email address. I'll send you a short questionnaire and address any questions you might have.

As you can imagine, until I get this pattern officially published I'll be keeping it a secret too. I may post a little teaser picture when it gets close to being published. Sorry everyone, that's just the nature of this kind of business. However, if you are a local resident, my first sample knit of this shawl will be on display and for sale at the August Artisan's Market.

As I make samples and write up all the pattern notes, I'm putting them up for sale so I can afford to keep designing. As the business evolves, I'll be gravitating more towards selling printed patterns and kits at these local shows and markets. As part of my business plan, I'm aiming towards being a vendor at knitting shows/conferences/festivals within 100 miles of home. Right now being a vendor is a dream, but I believe in dreaming and setting your goals high.

Last Minute Addition

Local Shop Announcement - Saturday July 9th 11am - 2pm at the Local Artisans Market located beside the Daily Grind coffee shop. I'll have a variety of things, including some of my toy collection, children's hats, and a lace shawl I'm finishing this evening. (This is assuming that I'll get a space. It's first come first serve type thing.)

Sorry I've been quiet on the blog lately. This local shop addition was a last minute decision and I've been working like a mad woman designing and creating a new shawl and creating more inventory to sell. This is the first local market booth for this year and I wasn't exactly prepared like I usually am. Things are going well with the preparations though and I'm almost completely finished with inventory now.

Next week, I plan to be back with my usual posts. Until then, happy crafting !

July Classes

I previously had planned to teach a wet felting class this month, but after re-evaluating things a bit, I decided it would be best to postpone this class till the fall. Everyone seems to be extremely busy this summer and I wanted to be sensitive to that. If you are still interested in the wet felting class, please let me know and we can work out something schedule wise.

July Classes

I'll only be offering one class this month. It will primarily be a children's class, but adults are welcome to attend as well. I'll be teaching Paper Beadmaking and Sticker Making on Saturday July 16th at two different time slots 11am-12noon and 1-2pm. Class costs $5 per person and all materials are supplied. Please bring your favorite magazine clipping for our sticker making activity. This class will have a bit of instructional time and lots of hands on fun. It's advised that children wear play clothes.

Parents can feel free to join their child or shop during craft hour. The shop has quite a large variety of local hand-crafted items. Christmas in July has returned to the shop, so it'll be a great time to get a head start on your Christmas purchases. There's also a very popular bead shop next door called Birdsong Beads and a nice fabric and quilting shop right up the street called Nonnie's Attic if you'd like to do some additional craft shopping.

In the Studio - The studio has been pretty quiet over the past 2 weeks as I was preparing and spending time with our god-daughter.

(Product Review - Speedball Fabric Screen Printing Inks)

I believe the last thing I shared with you all was my plans to screen print. I had purchased some new Speedball fabric screen printing inks to try. Everything was going great with making my graphics and custom screens, but the new inks just weren't to my liking. The Speedball ones appeared to be nothing more than thick acrylic craft paint with the fabric additive included. For the price I paid, I could have easily bought several high quality acrylic paints and a large tub of fabric additive to make my own. They weren't like ink at all and were very disappointing. The only think that I liked about them is that they blended well to make your own colors. Before doing any more screen printing I'll be looking for new inks. I want true inks and not acrylic paint. For the casual crafter who wanted to make an occasional custom t-shirt, this would probably be a nice product. I wanted to make a more professional looking end product that would last the life of the t-shirt and this product didn't meet that expectation.

To give you an overview price wise - I purchased the 6 color starter set at Hobby Lobby for $24.99 and a separate medium sized tub of black at an art store for $8.99. So that's roughly $35 with tax for essentially 7 tubs of the equivalent of craft acrylic paint that you could find at Walmart. You can get large bottles of acrylic paint at Walmart for $1.59 each. So you can do the math there.

Plans for This Week In the Studio :
It's all about toy knitting and organizing this week. I'm going to be offering toys now at the local shop. The toys will vary in size and type. This week I'm making some pillow-type toys. Each toy will be unique and multi-colored. Depending on the toy's personality, it may also be wearing clothes. As the summer progresses, I'll be adding some more traditional bears. If you are interested in a custom toy, please send me an email and we'll discuss the particulars. *Note - All toys are knit from cotton yarn so they are machine washable. Any fabric additions will also be 100% cotton.

I've added a few new things to the studio and need to find places to put everything so when I need a knitting break, I'll be doing some organizing as well. I found a lovely blog that focused on fabric organization and would like to include some of her techniques into my studio. Check out her ideas for your own inspiration. 1) Traditional Granny Squares Class
Learn the traditional granny square from start to finish

Age 5 and up This is a wonderful mommy and me class !
Supplies Needed: Size H / 8 crochet hook
Worsted Weight yarn in a couple colors (great use for tiny leftovers balls)
(yarn examples - Red Heart, Caron or Peaches and Cream brands - all can be found at Walmart)

You’ll learn all the basic techniques of crocheting the granny square, switching colors, and ending your square.
Plus you’ll learn how to attach the squares together and finish the ends. Each person will take home 4 completed and joined squares as well as the written pattern and ideas.

2) Needle Felting Basics Class
Learn the basic techniques for making your own needle felted creations
(Pssst... we'll also make some Flags and Stars for the 4th of July)

Class Offered on Saturday June 25th 1pm - 3pm at Mountain Morning Craft Gallery

Fee: $20 plus $5 for supply kit
For safety reasons, open to age 13 and up

You’ll learn about the art of needle felting and how to make your own, including a hands-on demo of attaching to fabric. Each person will take home a few completed objects, supplies and instructions for making more at home.

This class is the pre-req. for the future 3-D needle felting class.

Registration and supply kit cost is required by June 23rd

Back Home

So I've been home since late Monday night and goodness has it been difficult to get back into the swing of things. I didn't do anything in the studio all week other than put up some yarny goodness and a few supplies I purchased while on vacation.

Tomorrow morning (Saturday) I'm teaching my first class at Mountain Morning Craft Gallery. I have a few more pattern printouts to finish and the packing of my supply box, but I think I'll do so on Saturday morning before I leave for breakfast. I'll be having breakfast by myself and collecting my thoughts so that I can have a great class. We're still unsure of how many students to expect so that makes me a bit anxious.

In the next few days, I'll be posting those promised pics from my gift knitting. The mom-to-be seemed to really love them and there were a lot of ooh and ahhs from the crowd too. That made me happy and glad I'd endured through the knitting at such a fine guage.

Next week is my embossed candles class and everything except the tips sheet is ready for that class. There are still spots available so please sign up if you are interested.

I hope to be back to my usual routine next week. So far the plans are to get out my screen printing, sew some project bags for myself and work on some more squares for my upcoming crochet class. I also hope to finish up my first hand spindling project and share that with you all. Depending on time, I might start on the new lace design that's floating around in my head. I bought the yarn for it already ;-)

Vacation Time

Hallelujah its time for my hubby and I to take a vacation ! I'll be out of the studio this week but will probably check into Facebook and the blog each evening. I may even blog some pictures from our journey. This will be a laid back vacation with no true agenda other than rest and relaxation. I plan to do the tourist thing at least one day and visit the zoo too.

We'll be finishing our vacation at a family member's house so that we can attend a baby shower. After I come home from the vacation I'll be able to share my latest gift knitting projects and such. I may even have some stash enhancements to share, ya never know. I plan to take my spindle so I can leisurely spin some yarn too. I've got to ply that up soon and share my spinning experiences as well.

Just A Quick Announcement

I'm very excited about these upcoming classes and have been doing a lot of prep work for them. This week I'll be back working on the blog redesign and will be doing some painting in the studio. I hope to have some painting to share soon.

Around the Studio - End of Gift Knitting

Here's my first installment of my newest series of entries. I hope to post an Around the Studio once every week or so.

So Around the Studio this week lends me to the end of my gift knitting. I've been working on some special gifts for a new little cousin who'll enter the world in June. I've been having a blast knitting all things girly. Admittedly I've probably knit more on these gifts than I have anything else for the past couple months. Originally I had planned to design something special for one of the gifts. I spent a lot of time drawing out my design, doing the math (which this will be its own entry), and actually working on the knitting. Because this little girl will live in a hot climate for her first few months, I'd choosen a lovely cotton yarn to work with. I hadn't knit with this particular yarn before and was in for quite a surprise when it came to fitting in with my design. Long story short, it was a big fat design fail. That's the nature of designing though. You win some, you loose some. But I'll be able to salvage all of my drawings and some of the math, so this design will eventually be finished, just with a completely different yarn and weight.

I should finish all the knitting on the gifts this evening. I have a few little finishing items to do and of course some blocking. All should be ready for when we leave for vacation in May. We'll be ending our vacation by attending the baby shower. I plan to take only me knitting while we're on vacation.

As soon as we get back from the baby shower, I'll be sure to upload some pics of the gifts. I'm really proud of one in particular, even if I did end up having to use a published pattern.

Let's see, I also have been working on my sample for the plarn bag class. I decided to write a special pattern just for the class. It's a combination of my previous bags and some improvements I thought would add to the bag. Right now I've got the mini version almost completed and I'll have to upscale the pattern for the full size market bag. I've also contemplated on doing an online workshop for this bag. It would be an e-course that could be worked at your own pace and would include video tutorials and patterns. I've never done a class like this before, but think it would be quite interesting. Would anyone be interested in such a class?

Last weekend my husband and I went out of town to celebrate his birthday. I over course, could hardly wait to get to the craft store. I'm so thankful my husband gladly tags along and stays somewhat interested in my shopping. I picked up a wee bit of fabric, some random supplies and a new tube of paint. I've been itching to paint again. I have a unique project that will allow me to paint, but make some products for sale at the same time. It's a new to me project and was inspired by something I saw while we were on vacation a couple years ago. I hope to show off some of those projects in my next Around the Studio.

Well that should be enough for today. I need to get back to work now. BTW, most of my knitting and pattern writing actually happen from my living room for now. I have a very demanding bird who gets lonely when I spend too much time in the studio. One of these days when we build a larger studio (gotta write about that at some point), I'll have a space just for my sweet little Lola.

Remember this bag collection that I sold Summer/Fall 2009? Many people have asked about them and so I've decided to teach a class where you too can make your own reusable bags from that endless pile of plastic bags brought into our homes.

The bag taught in the class will be different than both bags you see above. It'll feature a more sturdy bottom with options to customize the bag to your liking. We'll be making a mini market bag version from start to finish. Pattern for mini bag and large bag will be provided to the students. The techniques learned in the class can also be applied toward other plarn projects.

In the class, I'll show you how to make the plastic yarn, crochet bottom, sides and finish with handles. This is a 4 hour class and will be offered on Saturday May 21st 10am - 2pm. Cost of the class is $25, supplies expect for hook are included. You need to bring a size M or N size crochet hook. I personally prefer an acrylic crochet hook with this project, but metal hooks will work just fine. You can pick up a crochet hook at Walmart or a local yarn store.

Class #2 Candle Embossing- Fully burnable candles with embellishments embedded into the wax.

Have you ever looked for the perfect candle and were unable to find it? This class will teach you the technique of embedding your own embellishments into the candle of your choice. These can add to your decor or make a beautiful gift.

You'll sample a few different embellishment techniques, such as stamping, coloring and embossing. The class will give you various ideas and show you how to package your candles as a gift.

This is a 2 hour class and will be held on Friday May 27th 2-4pm. For safety reasons, this class will be open for ages 15 and up. The cost will be $25 and includes all supplies (but if you have a light colored pillar candle, you are welcome to bring that to work on). You will leave the class with 1 completed candle, a necessary supply list and plenty of ideas for making your own candles.

Hello Beautiful

Meet my vintage pride and joy....a Morse Deluxe B-L circa 1940-1950's. She is a lovely workhorse in my studio and I love her dearly. She came to me as a gift from my step-dad. He'd rescued her from going into the dumpster (gasp...I know). Apparently her original owner had passed away and the house was being cleared. My Beauty's cabinet was in horrible disarray when I got it. Years of water damage and dirt were easily sanded away to reveal a perfect wood grain below. I'm a fan of darker woods so I found a nice shade of stain and re-stained it myself. My husband helped with the sanding, but I did the staining and the coat of polyurethane all by myself. It's the most staining I've ever done and I couldn't have been happier with the result. I found a large container of Greist attachments, extra feet, needles and vintage guidebooks in the drawer too. This is hands down the best craft related gift ever. I anticipate sewing many more years with this machine.

Once I get my craft studio cleaned and everything back in there the way I want it, I'll take and post some pics for you all to see the cabinet and the whole set up. *Note to self: Need to hang up inspiration board after I cover it with fabric. *

Purging in the Studio

Over the past couple weeks, I've been going through some of my supplies in the studio and purging things that either 1) I absolutely didn't need or 2) things that no longer interested me or 3) things that I couldn't ever see myself actually using. This has been quite the freeing process. If you're a long time reader, you'll remember my talking about getting rid of yarn over the past 2 years. Well I got rid of even more yarn last week. One huge bag was just a donation, but the other large bag I put all my nicer yarns and sold them to my childhood art teacher. (I gave her a good deal on it.) I'm so glad those yarns will be used by children for a while to come (I suspect at least 2 or 3 different grades). She is teaching them to weave soon. Getting rid of that yarn freed up quite a bit of storage space in the studio, which makes me extra happy.

Next I'll be moving on to some painting supplies. I haven't actively painted in a while, but always keep a nice selection available. I'm certain that my painting acrylics are fine, so I'm not going to mess with those. On the other hand, the craft acrylics are going through a huge overhaul. I'm thinking about donating a box of those to a local company that employees disabled adults. They do crafts with the employees when work is slow or someone is having a bad day.

Lastly I have a ton of kid crafts leftover from church ministries I've ran. I'm thinking the neighborhood kids will be getting those....hope the parents will be ok with some crafting mess ;-)

I'm looking forward to going through the fabric and paper bins in the fall. I'm trying to space out the purging over the year just so that I can keep my work flowing. The purging process is necessary for us all, no matter the size of your stash. If you've never gotten rid of old supplies before, I encourage you to do so. Donating to needy causes is very necessary, especially in today's economy. As a bonus, you get that whole warm and fuzzy feeling and the reassurance that you are helping to keep crafting alive.

Inspired By: Victorian Era

For years this first print hung in my living room. I have always been drawn to the delicate and elegant stylings represented during the Victorian Era. For the past month, I've been designing knitting projects that contain lace. I've been working with many different needle sizes and made multiple guage swatches. Designing with lace can be not only tricky to chart, but also difficult to see. Lace doesn't really become lace until after it's completely knitted, washed and then blocked into submission. (I'll touch on that submission part later.)

When I look at this set of prints, I'm inspired by how the ladies' dresses appear to float and drape all at the precise points of their body. I'm inspired by the modest hints of skin under the lacy panels. The shape and color of the purple dress in the last print particularly appeal to me. My attention is drawn to the simple elegance and pure femininity of each dress.

Beyond clothing design, I'm intrigued by the balances of light and dark in the decor, especially the first two prints. I know this is an artist's point of view, but I'd like to think that this is an accurate representation. The rooms represented here seem to be open and airy. The blending of soft and crisp lines in the furniture helps hold the entire room together. The ladies gazing out those over scale doors makes me dream of what's on the other side of those walls. I too can daydream with them.

The drawing here highlights this woman's shoulders beautifully. I could never see the modern woman wearing such a large petticoat under her dress, but my sketching has included some of these triangular shapes found here. I'm working on garment construction right now and how I can blend techniques to achieve the desired effects.

So back to my lace conversation....blocking into submission. Lace can be a stubborn creature, but once you find how to manipulate it the rewards are stunning. I think we can all apply this concept to our own lives. From birth we are stubborn creatures, creatures who quickly learn habits and find changes difficult. Your lace is exactly the same thing; very set in its ways and motivated by its own desires (usually to hide and curl up on itself). We learn through structure, repetitive motions and time. Lace again works in the same manner. When we wash our wool, the wool soaks up all it possibly can into the fibers, making them bloom and align. Even though water is not a firm medium, its the beginning of your lace finding some structure. After draining the water, giving a gentle sqeeze/roll in a bath towel, it's carefully laid out flat and pinned in the shape and size its maker wants it to become. As the wool dries, the repetitive motion is simply the being held into shape part. In time, your new lace will be beautiful and blocked into submission simply because someone took the time to work with it. See I told you this is a concept that we can use in our everyday lives.

BIG NEWS !

I'm so excited to finally share that I am now part of a local co-op of crafters. My products can now be found at Mountain Morning Craft Gallery 911 Main Street Andrews, NC. So if you are a local resident or ever in the neighborhood, please stop by and check out my little area. The shop is full of crafts made by artisans from around our area. There are some very unique handmade items, along with locally made jams and jellies. I hope to share a few of those unique items here in the coming weeks.

Not only are my products featured there but I've also been given the opportunity to teach classes. I'm giddy with excitement about teaching. It's one of the things I've always loved doing. Getting to share my abilities with others and seeing the joy of the craft on their faces....well there's few things that compare. The classes are still in the planning stages, but there's at least 8 different classes in the works right now. I'll post information about those as soon as it's available.

So I'm off to update the Facebook info page and make my announcement on Twitter.

Inspired By: Extreme Knitting

I found this knitting video a few weeks ago and was blown away by the sheer magnitude of such a knitting project. I'm inspired by the way the yarns were methodically placed, the shades of color, and the craziness of such a huge project. In a perfect world where money were no object, this is the kind of thing you'd probably find me doing. Smiles come to my face knowing that I'm not the only one out there that likes to push the boundaries of tradition in crafting.

Planning Process

So in an attempt to give Creative Radiance Designs a facelift, I've been doing lots of planning, which then made me think about my planning process. I have always thought of myself as a very methodical person. Even as a small child, I remember drawing out plans, making lists and then reading them aloud to whoever would listen. Nowadays, I still draw out those plans, make tons of random lists and post my stream of thoughts to my close online friends for their feedback. Of course, my dear husband hears lots of my planning aloud as well. I'm one of those people who talks out her ideas and makes decisions from those conversations. *laughs* I imagine if you walked on my front porch one day and listened to me talking and reading aloud, you'd wonder if I lost my mind. Oh well, this is the process that works for me. What about you? Do you have a special process for planning?

In that planning, I've also been thinking about the blog. Like I said in the previous post, I want to share more of my personal creativity here. I've signed up for a few websites that will help me keep a record of things that inspire me. I do want to make a weekly inspiration post. I'll be doing yarn and product reviews in the coming weeks....maybe doing a review entry once a month. At some point, I'd also like to describe my design process and share some pictures of my sketch books. But I'd like to know from you all if there's a series of posts you'd like me to do? I need some ideas here...so throw them my way.

Change Is Coming !

I'll be making an official announcement here (that some of my dear friends already know ) in the next few days. I'm very excited about a wonderful opportunity I've been offered. With this revival will come a slight name change. My little business will from now on be titled Creative Radiance Designs. I'll be adding my name to all the product labels as well.

The blog will not only be getting a much needed face lift, but also a new purpose. I'm planning to use this space for more creative expression. I'm not exactly sure what all that will include, but I know I want this space to be more than advertisement. Just off the top of my head, I'm thinking some product reviews, posting of things that inspire me, discussion of color combos and my own personal design style.

I'm off my personal break now. Life took some unexpected turns over the past six months and while I have much to be thankful for about the time, it ultimately left me right back where I started. It's time to focus some of my energies here to my beloved Creative Radiance Designs.

Currently I'm working on knitting designs. I've been so inspired lately to create. Spring has sprung in the mountains. I'm constantly renewed by the warm sunshine and sound of life returning after a long winter.

Look for changes here in the coming days. I also will have a yarn review posted soon.

Taking a Personal Break

Our lives have been changed by an unexpected blessing. This blessing is currently taking all my time and energy. So I'll be taking a break from Creative Radiance for a little while. I suspect the break to last for a couple months until I'm more able to manage life and business.

All current stock will remain available till sold. For those who've seen my local shop, most of those items are still available as well. Please send a request by comment or email to see if items are still available. I'll arrange payment and shipping with the buyer.

Vintage Pillowcase Dresses

Its finally time to make the official announcement of my new line of little girls dresses. I'd been inspired a few months ago by Handmade Home (a Christmas gift from my bestie). Inside the book was a lovely little pillowcase dress the author had made for her daughter Adelaide (isn't that a beautiful name?). So I went on the hunt for some beautiful vintage pillowcases to turn into my own creations. I took some clues from Amanda's version and a few other versions I'd saw online to create my own version.

These little beauties feature a nice wide fabric strap with an elastic top on the front. Each dress is modest in length so that it can accommodate for your ever growing little girl. The back is also completely adjustable with a v opening for the bow. I much preferred the dress to tie in the back than on the top of the shoulders. (Although you could technically thread the straps to tie on top of one shoulder if you choose too.)

I just adore how soft vintage sheets and pillowcases are. The patterns are great too and very unique. I did find a few matching sets, so there will be a few coordinating pairs. Each dress will be slightly different. I plan to create a few with snap closures.

Sizing is relatively open with these dresses because of their adjustable nature. Plus these can also be worn as shirts as the child grows. Or worn over a long sleeve shirt in the winter. All the sizes I list are a guideline for fit. Please refer to the actual dimensions to confirm fit.

Two views of the back. This is the a very versatile size. I'm labeling this as a child size 6 and up. But I'm certain that a small lady could wear this as a shirt. Dimensions : Neckline unstretched 8.5 inches Neckline stretched 12 inches Underarm width 16.5 inches Length from neckline to hem 20 inches (this does not include strap length since its adjustable)

This is a smaller size - roughly 2T and up. There's a delicate lace waistband sewn onto this one to match the delicate band around the bottom. Dimensions: Neckline unstretched 7.5 inches Neckline stretched 10 inches Underarm width 14 inches Length from neckline to hem 17.5 inches (this does not include strap length since its adjustable)

When I got it printed the saleslady thought it was professionally done and almost didn't sell it to me. But she saw my name matched the one on the ticket and sold it to me after all. Additional Shop Date

Today I decided to add another shop date to the list. I'll be at the Hometown Farmers Market in Downtown Andrews this Saturday (June 26th) from 8am - 12noon. My husband will be joining me as I set up for the first time this season. I've got a few more prep items to do this week, but I look forward to seeing my customers again and unveiling some new products.

I'll have some cute new dresses for girls ages 12 months and up. A few of my dresses are convertible and can be worn for several years (more details with pictures soon). I have something very new to me, repurposed and vintage ! eee I'm so excited to offer these! I'll have several needle felted accessories, hats, scarves and brand new dishcloth colors. A few random baby items will be available too if you are looking for a quick baby gift. Lastly, I'll have a few of my embossed candles available for purchase as well. (Please remember that I'll no longer be offering baby blankets.) I'm hoping to offer a few items for little boys too, but this may come later in the season.

I'll be sharing pictures with you later in the week and may even post new promotional material here for you to preview. I really appreciate the feedback and encouragement you all give.

Such a Bad Blogger...Great Thrifter Though Edit

I've been such a bad blogger lately. Oi life has really kicked me in the butt lately and I've not been the best at managing what little time I had left for me. I'm hoping to change that after next week. My hubby and I will be taking a few days off next week to rest and refresh. Believe me when I say we both need it.

Ironically I've gotten a lot of personal knitting done in the past few weeks (due to lots of time spent traveling and in waiting rooms), which I believe has kept me (somewhat) sane. I wish I could tell you that I have pictures to show you, but I don't, not even a decent cell phone pic. [fail] Oops, hopefully I'll get around to eventually. I need to update my Ravelry page with pics so I can share my projects.

I've done a bit of thrifting lately and have gotten some amazing deals. Don't you just love your local thrift shops? If you haven't had a chance to find a local favorite, I'd encourage you to take the plunge and go exploring for one. My favorite local one supports missionaries. It's ran by a myriad of eclectic ladies who are as interesting as the items they sell. Most of them are beginning to recognize me and often inquire about the unique nature of my purchases. I share a little of my creative ideas (often I'm sure they think "insane ideas") here and there. It's funny the different reactions I get from people. I love it!

I've been working on a few new (to me) projects and will share pictures of my thrifting finds when I unveil my new items. For now, I'll share a couple finds from today. These I plan to keep for myself and use them as is.

Aren't they adorable ? I plan to use the utensil bin in my studio for paint brushes or knitting needles. I think it'd look so nice on my work table. I look forward to sitting with a friend and having a nice cup of tea and a pastry with these cute cup and saucer sets. I bought these beauties at another thrift store that supports our local homeless shelter. It's also a bonus that this shop is located underneath a great coffee shop and scrapbooking store with free WiFi and a nice city view. ;-)

Last week I did have a couple of bad thrifting experiences, ironically both shops supported animal rescue and care. One shop was highly over priced with extremely rude salespeople. I got yelled at not once but twice while I was just browsing around. My mom and I quickly made our way out. The next shop was huge and had lots of vintage patterns. Unfortunately the smell of human waste was much too heavy for me to handle. Their items didn't smell, it was someone running the front register and I think a large area rug. I *may* try to revisit this place in the future to look at those patterns again. I didn't get to stay long enough to really look at anything there.

Thrifting is a such a hit or miss thing, but when you find some wonderful treasures its very rewarding. One of the main benefits of finding a local favorite shop is that often times you can get better prices and first picks of items because the salespeople get to know you. Today I came home with a milk box and a medium size handled paper bag completely full of items for right at $10 (none of these items were clothing). You just can't beat that. I hope you too can find some great deals in your area.

Sneak Peak

I finally got around to doing a few shop updates tonight. Along with life delays, its been raining here every time I've had a moment to take pictures. :-) Such is life I guess. Anyway, I'll do a full post later this weekend highlighting all the new additions to the shop.

But here's your sneak peak of my new needle felted items. If you've never heard of needle felting, it's a process of taking wool roving, fluffing it up and then stabbing it into shapes with a multi-barbed needle (aka SUPER sharp and dangerous needle). I've had fun learning the process of needle felting. I've made a few molds (sorta like cookie cutters) so that I can duplicate the shapes and keep them uniform in size. Since I have a fond love of owls my first beauty is Miss Sue, a pale peach cutie with a green bow in her ear. I also posted a set of 3 little blue flowers. Take a look at the photos below and let me know what you think.

Short Delay

Well I think the allergies have finally come my way. I'd hoped that I was going to escape it, but I've had the sniffles and zero energy for a couple days now. So there will be a short delay on my next shop update. I'm going to take it easy and just keep knitting and felting when I feel up to it. I hope to have a few listings up on Monday April 26th. I appreciate your patience with me.

Next Shop Update

Well my weekend update never happened. One thing led to another and well I just didn't get the time to take all the pictures I needed for round 2. So I'm going to modify my update schedule a bit and give you a sneak peak.

Next Update: Monday April 26th

Thursday's update included a few of my new cloth sets. These sets include 2 cloths that can be used as washcloths or as dishcloths. I personally prefer them as dishcloths because they make my kitchen look so nice. Each cloth is made of 100% durable, yet soft cotton. Here's a few sample pics. For more details and information, please check out my Etsy page (Link is the right).

I'll be offering a few single ones here and there and larger sets later on. I can make additional quantities of most colors. If you see one that you'd like to have more of, please send your request. These cloths will be available all spring and summer, including in my local shops.

During the next shop update I'll be starting my eco-friendly and reusable lines with some Swifter dustmop covers. These are also made from 100% cotton and fit most sweepers (ie Swifter Sweeper, Clorox Sweeper/Readymop). I use mine dry to sweep and dust. If I need to spot clean or do a gentle scrub, I wet it in hot water, wring, apply and mop the floors a bit. Once it's dirty just dust off the large particles in the trash and throw in the washing machine.

A few baby gift items will available in the next update. Baby items will also be offered in sets, which include a hat and socks size 0-3 months. The sets will be available in the May update. I hope to bring back the burp cloth and bib sets this summer.

Lastly I'll also be introducing my new needle felted accessory line. It's been a great joy to learn the art of needle felting. *smiles* There's something so joyful about stabbing away at a bunch of mangled wool and discovering the beautiful new object that forms from it. I've never sold these items before so I'll be introducing them in small batches. I'd like to have your feedback on them in the next shop update entry.

Please also note that I will be posting a variety of items to the Etsy shop throughout the spring and summer. Based on the response and sales, I'll post more of certain items and less of others. I want to keep my customers as happy as I can. But please speak up if you'd like to see more of something. Today Is The Day

Today is the day my Spring 2010 line will launch. I'm so excited to start up my Etsy shop again. It's been down since the holiday season. I have rather enjoyed taking the winter to focus on personal projects and new ideas. It is something I'm considering doing in the future.

So here's how my update will work. My first Etsy update will be posted this evening (by 8pm EST). I'll first be listing a few cloth sets as an introduction. These will be available in my shop throughout the spring and summer. The sets can either be used as washcloths or dishcloths. I personally love them as dishcloths because they are soft, durable and have enough texture to make my dishes shine. I think these sets would be a lovely gift item for that special someone or just a nice treat for your home. I'll have a variety of different combinations at diferent price points. Please remember that you can request a specific color if your favorite isn't represented. Larger quantities can also be requested. More information about these sets will be posted in separate blog post, complete with pictures and other color choices.

I will be posting another Etsy update this weekend and one more mid-week next week. Each of these updates will include other items that will be available this spring. (More blog details later.)

The spring collection is all about small gift items and color. I'll keep posting new items in batches here and there to keep the line fresh and interesting. Now is the time to open up your windows, let the air flow in and enjoy the beauty of spring !

So Many Projects, So Little Time

This is the definition of ANY crafter, but lately my ideas and inspiration levels have been at all time highs. I'm so excited about the upcoming season for Creative Radiance. I have some great new (small) products/projects planned that I almost can't wait to share. But for now I will resist temptation and will keep you all guessing.

I'm also participating in a traveling notebook project with some of my closest online friends. It's going to be great fun sharing in each others lives in a tangible form. I have some creative ideas especially planned for this notebook project. I think I'm going to photograph the pages I do because I have a feeling that its going to spark some other creative endeavors (I'm being mysterious on purpose ;-) )

It's also almost gardening time here. Spring fever has hit me hard and I'm itching to spend time outside barefoot. In my world, there's nothing better than cool grass gliding against my bare feet. Add a large body of water in there and I'm in heaven. I'll be sharing tid bits of my summer garden here and in depth over at my personal blog.

Well I guess I'd better get back to my world now. I'll leave you all with a sneak peak of something I completed today.

BTW, looks like I need to make a few more goals, cause I'm pretty much completed the ones from January. This is probably the first time I've ever been able to say that. Appears I'm learning from experience after all. ;-) Oh goodness do I like that !

Quick Spring 2010 Update

I've been working quite a while on a new line of things for Spring 2010. I'll be offering new items in my shop throughout the spring and summer. The first update will include cotton cloth sets and small zippered bags. The kickoff date will be Thursday April 15th. I'll be doing a nice introduction to the line and some sneak peaks on the blog here, plus my listings will go live in the Etsy shop. So please do check back in for that.

I hope you all like the new line I've come up with. It's based off of what people have requested and successful sales (both locally and online). I am just now looking at my calendar for local sale dates. As of right now, I am planning to set up my shop regularly again at the local farmer's market downtown (may have some of my organic veggies to sell too). I'm looking to expand more dates at a flea market or two as well. As my calendar fills up, I'll include those updates on the Shops page.

Personal Creativity

I don't often share a lot of personal thoughts here, but tonight I felt compelled to do such. Monday I was out shopping with my mom. We went into a local quilting and fabric store (my choice of course) and my senses were immediately heightened. All these rich vibrant colors flooded my senses and my heart skipped a couple beats. You see me and fabric (or yarn....or well any art and craft supply) are two parts of an very yummy pie. I'm in utter heaven when I'm surrounded by anything that sparks my creativity.

Then.....well then I also became aware that there were other ladies in this quaint shop. These ladies were all loudly discussing various topics dealing with their fabric crafts. All was ok until a newbie entered the shop. It was very apparent that she had little knowledge of quilting, but she did know her way her around a sewing machine. I was pleased when she began naming off stitches and the particulars. But then suddenly she fell into the trap....the dreaded trap of zero creativity. She had a picture in hand of a quilt she wanted to make with fat quarters. She had a color palette in mind, albeit the one from the picture, but it was still her choice. Then the lady in the shop told her what a fat quarter was and directed her to them in the shop. It was then that the customer froze. She left all reasoning and prior knowledge behind. Out of her mouth spouted questions filled with desperation. She couldn't make a single choice. To top it all off, she just sat down at the table and let the saleslady do all the shopping for her and then later she'd "help" her put it all together (for a nominal fee of course).

I just stood there in shock listening to it all. Then I started laughing. I mean like belly rolling can't contain it laughing. I did my best to hide from them so they couldn't hear me. I wasn't poking fun at anyone, it just so typical. People don't depend on themselves anymore. They don't trust their instincts nor do they jump into things for themselves. I mean really people, must you over analyze and take fabric so seriously? And this wasn't huge expensive yards of fabric, this was tiny fat quarters just mere remnants of other projects.

When did it become ok to just let someone make decisions for us and not dig deep into our creative minds? The human brain is so complex and everyone, yes everyone, has some creativity. The problem is that we don't explore it or exercise that part of us. May you readers out there never just settle for what someone else tells you is beautiful or exactly what you are looking for. Explore it, try it out and see what marvelous things you can create with your own hands.

Happy March

Happy March Everyone.

Hope this March finds you all keeping warm. It's been mighty cold and snowy here in the south. Things have been busy around my home. I've been busy redoing my little craft studio and prepping for new items for the shop. There's some pictures of the studio progress on Flickr, if you are interested.

It's baby season around here so I've been busy making gifts. I may have a few extra to add to the shop. If anyone is interested in a small baby gift items, like hats, socks or washcloths, let me know. I can knit some and make them available as needed.

So I'll be posting some updates in the next few weeks.

Goal Updates

It's been quite awhile since I've blogged here. I've been busy getting down to business and I've very happy to report that I've crossed off quite a bit off of the list I posted at the beginning of the year.

Here's what I've finished so far...

GOAL: Get yarn stash down to half of current state by March.

I found someone locally on Ravelry and had the ingenius idea to offer her the entire zippered bag of yarns. She graciously accepted, we met up, and I gifted the yarn. I still have 1 large and 2 small totes of yarn to use. For the time being this is a manageable amount for me. Now the goal is to use these stash yarns (mostly acrylics).

GOAL: Go through UFOs (unfinished objects) and either finish them or frog (aka pull them out).

I've finished all the projects on my needles, except the one I'm working on now and a rug. I've yet to make up my mind about the rug. But I'm proud of myself for all the finishing I've completed. I did frog a few items too and rewind the yarn.

GOAL: Knit myself the fingerless gloves I've been wanting/needing forever.

Completed and worn several times. This reminds me that I need to take a good picture and share on my Flickr.

GOAL: Do a fabric inventory. Re-organize fabrics by color and types again.

All fabrics have been sorted and placed in new clear plastic bins. You can see pics of this at my Flickr feed. Click on my Portfolio tab for a link.

GOAL: Sew more things.

Haven't sat down to sew yet.

GOAL: Find more thrift stores.

I've went thrifting and found some amazing deals in the past month. Last week I purchased a huge bag full (over 100) of zippers for only $5. I've also picked up lots of vintage pillowcases, a huge throw, and some items to repurpose for fabric. These purchases have came from 2 thrift stores. I'm still looking for more in my area. The ones I want to visit haven't been open lately. I think more will open in the spring.

ETSY SHOP UPDATE:
I haven't taken a lot of time to make new items for my shop yet. I plan to open the Etsy shop by the end of March. I'll be posting a few things here and there as I complete them. You should expect to see coffee cozies (cloth and knit), zippered bags (in assorted sizes and textures), and some knitted cloth sets to begin my spring stock.

The blog will also be public again next week.

In the New Year

Wow are we really already 10 days into the new year? Goodness how does time fly by. So far my year has felt quite disconnected. I began the year very sick; literally was in bed sick as 2010 came in. Then it took nearly the whole first week to feel like myself again. I have been finishing up a few knitting UFO's from 2009 and have been working on my stash yarns.

A few immediate goals to share...

Get yarn stash down to half of current state by March.

I went through most of my yarn a few days ago and put yarns that I want to keep in 2 small plastic containers and in my two working baskets. A good portion of the rest went into a zippered queen mattress pad bag I've repurposed. The remainder (approx. 3/4 of a 20 gallon tote) is waiting to find projects or to be put with the zippered bag. I plan to get rid of the zippered bag of yarn by March if I've not used it by then.

I have some yummy yarn that's screaming from my stash bin to be knit into some simple fingerless gloves.

I'm on the hunt for some vintage fabrics, sheets, and bed covers. Thanks to my lovely Christmas gift from Adrian, Handmade Home....I've totally gotten the sewing bug. Amanda (the author) uses lots of vintage and repurposed fabrics for her projects.

I'm also gearing up to reopen the Etsy shop. I have been thinking it over and have decided that its time for a complete change. I want to offer items that will 1) sell, but 2) will also bring some joy in making. So I'll be changing up what will be offered. More than likely everything will be very small because I want to make things that aren't so time consuming. I do enjoy spending long hours knitting, but there are projects that I want to make for myself, my home and my family. It seems that I spent a lot of hours in 2009 working on just a few projects for a limited number of people. I'd rather make lots of small projects that more people can enjoy.

I haven't quite figured out all the changes yet, but here's just a few off the top of my head. 1) I won't be making any more plarn bags. I have a couple balls of the plarn left over so I might put those up for sale in my Etsy. I might even make some more of the plarn yarn just to get rid of all the excess bags I have, but the bags are no more. If you absolutely had your heart set on one, I might be willing to make another but I'd have to charge more than in the past. Those bags seriously take more time and effort than a small sweater. I spent almost all summer working on them for my local shops. 2) The crocheted blankets will no longer be available. I have decided to give away a couple to expectant parents and I don't have plans to make any more. 3) I'll be adding a few knitted cotton dishcloths to see how well they would sell. These will be offered in sets to off set the shipping cost. 4) I hope to offer some handmade card sets ; just the basics birthday, thank you and note cards. 5) I'll be adding more cloth projects, which I'll announce later.

Lastly, I'm considering making this blog public again. I think the issues that I had in the past have subsided. My husband thinks its time. What do you all think? (Since it's just my closest friends and family who read this anyway.)

On Private For A While

Most of you who can read this entry know the reason why my blog is private for a while. I'll not go into all the details again. Hopefully this private thing will only last for a little while.

Until I come back to the public again, I'm going to use this time to focus on my personal creativity. I've been itching for days now to do some personal crafting. I haven't had a spare moment of time though. I've been busy finishing up orders this week. And don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining at all, but I do need some balance. When I allow my creative side to get off balance, I'm putting myself in jeopardy of a burnout and a huge let down.

I'd like to figure out my own personal style. There's an awesome class that Elsie Flannigan is offering soon. I'd love to be able to take it, but I just don't have that kind of extra funds laying around during the holiday season. Maybe if she offers it again in the future, I'll be able to take the class. But in the meantime, I'm going to start a style journal. I'm going to fill it with anything that makes me happy, that's visually pleasing, or just makes my heart sing. I think knowing your own style is very important for any artistic person to know and I'm not so sure if I really know my own.

One of the knitting podcasts that I listen to has also encouraged me to go through my stash and knit with any yarn that I just love. Usually I have a particular project in mind, but there are some yarns that I have that I'm waiting on the perfect project. Well that perfect project may never come and why leave that yarn to waste? So another goal is to use up my pretty stash yarn. I'm also going to try to use as much of my older yarns as possible. I want to bring my stash down to one large Rubbermaid container or less. Currently I have umm....8 or so large containers and then there's my project yarn basket in the living room and my numerous individual project bags. So...ya....I have a ton of stash yarn to use up. I'm not so sure I love all of it anymore. This past year I've donated yarn on 4 different occasions, but I may be donating more in the future. De-cluttering and de-stashing are a major goal in my craft room.

Ok just to re-cap (for myself) some goals for the coming months....
1) Find creative balance by taking more personal crafting/designing time.
2) Learning my own personal style by making a style journal
3) De-cluttering and de-stashing

and just for fun adding a number 4) Have fun with life and experience whatever my heart chooses.

Recycled Holiday Cards

Let's face it, as the holiday season approaches many of us will be faced with receiving a large amount of Christmas cards, most of which we'll look at once and put in a pile somewhere. When someone writes a personal message to me, I'll keep the card of course, but what to do with all those random cards that you get from church and distant or unknown family members?

Here's a great craft tutorial that Vicky Howell posted.

There's many other options too. You can make origami ornaments too. Here's a cute small star ornament template that you can download. I save a lot of the card fronts to recraft into new cards and scrapbook pages. Reused card fronts also make excellent post cards.

Here's Little Elijah

A few months ago I decided I'd love to make Grayson a cute little elephant. I found Ysolda Teague's awesome patterns sometime last year. I can't brag enough on her patterns. They are simply amazing and answer most any question you could have about that particular project.

Here's little Elijah...

I'm in love with this little guy. Yes he did kill my fingers to knit, but it was all worth it. Next time I knit this little guy he's going to be made from a much heavier weight yarn and larger needles.

Here's what I wrote about him on my Ravelry page....
"Ysolda’s patterns are the BEST I’ve ever seen ! She has such detailed diagrams and each row written out step by step. She also includes extra tips and links to tutorials if you need them. I highly recommend her patterns.

The most difficult part of this pattern is working with a small needle and such a tight guage. It must be knit tightly or the stuffing will come through. I did this one all in magic loop. I picked up the stitches with a crochet hook and put them onto size 3 dpns. Then the first row was knit in magic loop off the dpns.

I recommend taking your time to knit this one. It does knit up fast, but you might need to take knitting breaks to save your fingers from soreness. I learned this the hard way, but am very happy with the outcome."

Sore Finger Thursday

*This is a cross post from my personal blog. I'm participating in the National Blog Posting Month over there. Lately I've been talking a lot about my green lifestyle. If you are interested, please take a look.*

Tonight I'm going to take a break in my green entries. I'll resume these on Monday because I'm going on a little weekend gateway. I'll be surrounded by family and celebrating a dear sweet little boy's first birthday. Today I've been preparing for the trip and finishing up some last minute knitting.

I learned a valuable lesson today : my fingers and small needles don't make for a good match. My poor fingers are so sore from knitting that I can barely stand to type. Oi I'm telling you I'll never forget this one. But I guess that's what life is about; living and learning.

Tomorrow morning I'm hoping to have time to do a nice and sunny fall mini photo shoot with my latest knitting pretties. I can't wait to share with you my latest creation. It's one of the cutest things I've made in a while.

So this is short and sweet. Tomorrow night I'll be blogging from a different state. Prayers for a safe journey are much appreciated....

Sitting at the Coffee Shop

Growing up I would have laughed at you if you'd told me that one day I would look forward to hot cup of Joe. I'm having a nice gentle white chocolate mocha while my dear husband is sipping a kicky chocolate peppermint latte. 'Tis very refreshing indeed. Our local coffee shop The Daily Grind measures right up there with Starbucks. I'd say that their Macchiatos are much better than Starbucks.

Anywho, this entry isn't a coffee review. I guess I was just being reflective today about some lifestyle things. I sat for about an hour cleaning some gooey glue off of some glass containers I'm repurposing. Yesterday someone asked me to sell them some of my MSG free ranch dressing mixture. Thankfully I have a few containers laying waiting for such the task. I do really enjoy repurposing. It's great for the wallet and the planet. Lately I've been searching the 'net for some repurposing inspiration. I do a lot already, but I like the challenge of looking for even more ways. I'm thinking about doing some posts on my 'green' ways. Would you be interested in reading that?

As I was writing this entry, I wasn't sure which blog to place this one in. I'm a bit torn at times between combining my two blogs anyway. Oh well, I can't decide for now. So you get this entry in both blogs. ;-)

Sunday ride home

I must say that I love Blue Sky Alpacas Dyed Cotton yarn. This is the Pickle colorway. Its pure yummy organic softness. The cozy factor is high too. Doubled up it's quite warm. It's currently my favorite knit scarf.

I finished knitting this a few days ago. Knitting and wearing a new scarf is one of my favorite parts of fall. It's been so incredible cold here. It was actually in the 30s on my way to church yesterday morning. That's insane for mid October. But it just makes all the yummy warm drinks that much more enjoyable. I've been enjoying homemade pumpkin spice lattes and rich hot chocolate with lots of teeny marshmallows.

This weekend I've been working on making some napkin ring/holder things. LOL....I'm still not sure what to call them. But I thought it might be nice to have a coordinating set for my table. I'll be offering them in my shop very soon too.

Today my creative plans are to work on embossing some candles and some drawing.

Creative Motivation

So lately I've been doing lots of surfing the 'net and reading crafty books at bookstores in preps for my upcoming craft class. I almost feel like I'm on creative overload and oh is it such a GREAT feeling. I wish there were more hours in the day that I could devote to crafting and writing out all these wonderful ideas in my head.

Tomorrow I plan on visiting the local thrift store and the fabric store. I'm in search of a couple t-shirts to repurpose. I have a few I could work on, but I want to try out some new techniques on a few shirts that won't kill me to cut up. LOL, I think I have a phobia of cutting perfectly ok clothes. Hopefully I'll get over this one day.

Vacation

My dear husband and I will be leaving for vacation bright and early in the morning. We will be vacationing at the lovely Carolina Beach. This vacation is to celebrate our 10 years of marriage. I anticipate a lovely and relaxing getaway.

In Another Life

I was reading some blogs today and came across this beauty. Take a look at this wedding dress ! In another life, I imagine that I would looked like this on my wedding day. The other life being me living with a flock of sheep with tons of originality.

I absolutely love the cable like top of the dress. And while I don't think I could pull off dreads of any kind, I have to appreciate the skill and unique quality of the skirt of the dress. I would, however, try a dress like this one and pose with one of those awesome looking sheep. Talk about the perfect photo op. ;-)

Almost Finished

I'm almost finished with the blog makeover. I'm still working on a custom banner. I have a couple designs drawn out, but I've yet to decide the perfect one. I also still need to add a few pages to the navigation bar, change some colors on the supporting pages and reorganize my sidebars. More samples will be in my portfolio soon. So what do you all think about the changes?

I'm still thinking about what to giveaway. Several people have suggested I give away a plarn bag. There's still time to make suggestions, so get those in. I'll be announcing the blog giveaway on October 2nd.

I've been using this blog lately to update mostly about my local shops. It's gotten a little boring over here. I mean, really who wants to read a commercial? I'm sorry about that. I seem to have neglected one of my favorite forums of advertising.

So I've decided it's time for a complete blog redo. I'll be working on some new blog designs in the coming week and hope to have all the new changes finished by the end of September. I'd like to make a big deal about the new blog unveiling, complete with my first blog giveaway. Anything you guys would like to see in a giveaway? I'm up for suggestions.

September Market Day

I will be at the downtown Andrews Trade Day on September 5th starting at 8am. This will be the last time this season that I'll be having my shop in Andrews. So if you are interested be sure and come by for a visit. At this time I don't know where I'll be setting up shop, but look for a green canopy and my Creative Radiance signs.

I hope to have some of my holiday samples to show. I'll be taking orders for knit Christmas stockings, coffee cozies, and small ornaments. Please get your orders in soon and remember that I have shortened my custom order time this year. Check out my customs page for more details.

Plarn bags will also be available in white and tan. After the summer season, I won't be making these again until spring so get yours while they last. (Please note custom plarn bags from my Etsy shop will remain available until further notice.)

I also have several infant dresses, scarves, baby blankets, hairbows, dishcloths and Swiffer cloths left in my summer stock.

Plarn Bag Line and Upcoming Dates

I'm pleased to introduce my newest plarn bag line. These bags are hand crocheted from recycled grocery store bags that I've turned into plastic yarn. So far I offer three sizes of plarn bags. I'm making mostly tan bags right now, but will be offering white bags soon. Since these bags are made from plastic you don't have to worry about getting them wet or how to wash them. The possibilities are almost endless!

I first introduced these bags at my local shop at the Farmer's Market. People have been fascinated and have asked for more bags. So I'm doing my best to deliver just that. These bags will make an appearance in my Etsy shop this week, but I will be offering them at a discounted rate to my local shoppers. Below are pictures are some details of each bag.

The Lunch Bag - a small bag measuring 8" wide by 11" tall (including handles). **
This little bag would be a nice little reusable lunch sack or a small fruit/veggie tote.

Drawstring Plarn Bag - this medium bag measures 10" wide by 15" tall. **
The perfect catch all bag with versatile handles. I've placed a beach towel, swimsuit and sunscreen in this one to make a wonderful beach/pool day.

Market Tote - the large bag measuring approx. 14" wide by 16" tall. **
This bag would be a nice addition to a nice long day of shopping.

**Please note: All bags have 2-4 inches of overall stretch as well. The mesh middles make it easier for the bag to stretch to accommodate it's contents.

A Repeat Visit

Once again I'll be having my local shop at the Farmer's Market in Andrews today (Saturday). The market is located in Hall Memorial park (across from the post office) from 8am - 12noon. One Happy Camper

I had an excellent sale day this morning praise the Lord. I sold mostly my small items (dishcloths, washcloths, etc.) and 1 of my new plastic bag purses. I'm very pleased to finally get some steady sales rolling in. Of course, I've still got 4 blankets in my inventory and I would love to see them find homes (*hint hint*). I'm just glad that I finally figured out a market for my local area. I'm going to take today's earnings and put it towards our 10th anniversary vacation. Roasting in the heat all morning puts me that much closer to roasting in the fall beach heat. :-) That makes me one happy camper.

Local Shop Date

Thrift Store Finds

So after being domestic this morning, I spent some time downtown at the thrift store and a new consignment shop. I've only been to this particular thrift store once or twice before. I usually go in there when something in the window catches my eye, but don't take the time to dig through all the items in the shop. Today was different and I purposely went in there to search for a new treasure. And here's what I found....

Isn't he a cutie? I love it. He's now residing on top of my entertainment center. I also bought a couple of children's books for uber cheap. I was searching for some wool sweaters to repurpose and use their yarn, but didn't find what I was looking for. Oh well....till next time.

Etsy Shop Changes EDIT

In an effort to save some time and money, I've decided to change the way a few items will be displayed in my Etsy shop. Some multiple items that I offer in several colors will be listed together as one single item in my shop. This will reduce the amount of items that I show in my Etsy shop, but will help reduce the cost of keeping my shop online.

I will be placing most of my shop items on inactive when I do local shows and shops this season. Please be aware of that if you come to my shop and suddenly find it completely empty. I have not left and the items will return the following day if they aren't sold locally. If something does sell that you had your eye on, please send me a note and I'll see if I can duplicate it.

Please note in particular that the remainder of my 2008 blanket collection are now listed under one listing. If you would like specific information about the secondary blankets listed, please convo me, email or comment here.

Searching for Ideas

I'm awake very early this morning due to a lovely unexpected dose of frost. I had to go rescue my beloved vegetables and flowers from the big bad frost. So I've been just leisurely exploring on the internet this morning. I'm looking for some creative (and frugal) ideas for making my home craft studio more inspiring and useful. My space is quite small, but contains lots of items that I use often. My biggest struggle has been to make storage attractive. I'm enjoying all the new colors of Rubbermaid (-like) plastic storage totes. I have multiple colors now, but honestly I need more than color to make them attractive enough to keep out in the main room. So....any ideas from anyone?

I've also been on the search for ways to make my summer shop attractive, properly display my products, and be portable enough to set up by myself. This morning I came across a cute idea to display my shop name. It looks like I'm going to have to take a day to just experiment and see what I can come up. I'd love to find a dress form to use. It would help to display and when I design clothing. There's a way to use duct tape to make your own personalized dress form. But I'm not sure I'm brave enough to have one made of myself, because as the tape wraps around you breathing becomes difficult. I've heard some horror stories about people getting super claustrophobic when attempting this too. *hum* I'll have to think about this one.

I've drawn some designs for display racks. Again this will be a try as I go project. There will be weeks that I'll be setting up and opening my shop by myself. So it's very important that whatever I use would be lightweight and small enough for me to setup. The tricky part is that these items also need to be sturdy enough to last until mid-October or so. I'd also like to utilize some vertical space too, because it makes for an attractive display and uses more available space. When you are paying for a space to set up shop, it becomes increasingly important to make sure all your bases are covered. So again I'd love if you have any ideas to share.

Cuteness and Sunshine

Lately I've been working on some smaller projects. I've completed a couple scarves, a few toys, and my newest shop addition, knit bows. Please see the pics below.

A little blurry, but a glimpse at what the knit bow looks like on a headband.

These cuties come with a metal hair clip (large size only) and are available in my Etsy shop. You can order custom color combinations. I will also have these available in my summer shops. I think these bows would be cute added to your hair or on your own knitted or crocheted items. A headband easily slips into the back as well. I have a limited selection of headbands, but if you'd like to order one with your bow, please just request it.

And who doesn't need a little sunshine added to their day? I made this little toy for a baby cousin's 1st birthday. I'm thinking about making a few more in a few different styles for my summer shop.

I call this scarf Beautiful Leftovers. I had a few balls of some nice yarn left over from other projects and decided to put them to some good use. This is a small scarf (measuring 4 inches by 54 inches) and is made from a wool blend in an interesting twisted lace stitch. It is airy, but still warm enough to wear on a breezy spring day. This will be posted in my Etsy shop around 10pm tonight.

There's one more project that I can't share just yet. A friend of mine is expecting her first child just any day now. I sent her a little something in the mail and as soon as she sees it I'll share it with everyone. It's a project that I hope to make several of, but my friend's child gets the honor of having the first one. ;-)

So the tutu is finished and I LOVE it ! It's the cutest little thing. I have yet to take some good photos of it. But hopefully tomorrow my hubby will have a chance to help me set up some lighting in my craft studio to take pictures. So be on the lookout for that.

I owe a few pictures of some past projects. So here in no particular order are said pictures.

A scarf I made for Adrian. It's a bit hard to tell in these pics, but it's got a lovely ruffle and drap to it.

A little earflap hat for Grayson. This is my own custom design. My hubby helped me chart out that snowflake.

Here's Grayson wearing his hat. I couldn't decide which photo I liked best, so you got both of them. The hat is a bit big on his head, but he should be able to wear it for a while. He's around 3 months in these pictures.

Today's Creation

I've been making a tutu for this cutie.

So tonight I was looking through all the Easter goodies thinking about what I'd like to get for my god-daughter Genna. Some time ago I had saw a cute picture online of a room decorated with brightly colored tutu's. I imagine that these tutu's were a great source of dress up fun for the little girl pictured with them. Genna will be 4 in July and is that perfect age for dress up. So I decided that I'd make Genna a tutu to play with. It's a bit shorter than a traditional one so that she can run and play without tripping over it.

Since I don't have my own little ballerina running around yet, I'll have to settle for the next best thing. I hope she'll like it. Although, I'm almost certain that she's never seen a ballerina. I guess I'll have to pull down my books and teach her about them.

I bought enough materials for 2 and am debating on putting the second one in my Etsy shop. I'll have the first finished tomorrow and will post pictures. Let me know what you think about it.

Question for My Fellow Multi-Crafters?

I've been pondering this for some time....how does one manage being a multi-crafter? (aka doing more than one craft at a time)

I've been neglecting scrapbooking for some time...ok more than a year. I love scrapbooking so much that I've continued to buy a few supplies here and there. I even downloaded some new digi-scrapbooking stuff today. I want to scrapbook. Lord knows I have enough pictures and memories to scrapbook. Yet I never can seem to find the time.

Here's some random ideas:
1) Journal/Scrapbook in a completely non-traditional way.... I'm inspired by Elise's inspiration journal post. (I want to keep that creativity alive.)
2) Setting aside a set amount of time each week just for scrapbooking (maybe 15-30 minutes)
3) Have a scrapbooking day of the month (this one might be harder)

Photography is the next thing that I've neglected. It's not technically a craft; its more like a hobby. But it's something that I once was very passionate about. I invested a lot of time learning how to take the best shot of things, but prided myself in those unique creative angled shots that I captured. It's now a rare occasion that you see me with a camera in hand. Unless its a special event, vacation, or photo shoot for my shop, my beloved camera stays locked away in a dark black case.

It's also been more than a year since I last picked up my beloved paints and brushes. I have lonely barren canvases in my craft room closet. Granted I'm not a wonderful painter, it's something that I do enjoy. I believe I could paint some art similar to the things that inspire me online. Paint is one of those things that liberates the one with the brush. It allows you to be almost completely carefree. Paint is the perfect medium for emotions, feelings and thoughts to flow. I'm always looking for an outlet...but um...

2008 was the year of knitting for me. I found myself in the form of two pointy needles and a ball of yarn.(lol) My life became consumed with everything knitting. It was one of the most invigorating times of learning that I've experienced yet; what a rush! I still have the passion to knit as much as possible. But I feel like I may be limiting myself by sticking only to knitting.

So back to the question: How do you handle or maintain your drive and ability to be a multi-crafter?

Vacation Notice

Over a Month?

Wow it's been over a month since I updated this blog. Goodness, it's been a long time. I have been so incredibly busy with holiday projects and coffee cozy orders. I am happy with the orders I received near Christmas time, every little bit helps.

I've already finished a baby blanket this new year for a gift. I made several Christmas presents, mostly hats this past year. I'll have the pictures loaded soon to my gallery for your viewing pleasure. At the moment, I thought I'd do a quick update and head to bed.

Projects planned for the New Year:
*My Long Jewel-Tone Scarf - It's about 40% completed. I hit a design snag, found a solution and put it down to complete Christmas projects. It will be started again soon....I promise.

* A Green Scarf for Me- There's this beautiful shade of green that has fastly became my new color. I positively love it and plan to wear as much of this color as possible.

* (Finally) A Square Necked Sweater with a double button closure for me - I haven't made anything I could really wear yet, so this will be my first big project for me.

For the Shop -

* Several Coffee Cozy Designs - Some knitted, others will be fabric

* Winter and Spring Hats - I have a cute design that I'm writing right now for a ladies hat with a bow on the front. Guys hats will be beanie inspired and feature some unique color combos.

* Knitted Polka Dot Blanket - I'm not sure if this will make my winter/spring collection, but it's on the list for this year.

*A Chunky Shawl - Not a shawl for major warmth, more to take the chill away. I've yet to find the right yummy yarn for this one.

* A Ballet-inspired wrap sweater - Not sure who will be the end user of this, but I want to make one.

* And many many other ideas are floating through my head, included making some cute little knitted toys.

A full update to my Etsy shop and site will be posted by MIDNIGHT Thursday Jan. 15th . Custom ordering will be available again on January 28th.

Tonight I found out that I can turn my digital projects into knitting graphs. So that means there is an endless supply of designs that I can now use in my knitting. I'm definately feeling inspired at the moment. Too bad it is WAYYY past my bedtime and I need to get to bed now.

Website and Etsy Shop

I am pleased to announce that I will be adding a more website look to this blog in the next coming weeks. I had planned on making an actual website for this blog to link to, but was a bit disappointed with the website space from my internet provider. At this time, I'm going to just go for the more interactive blog site. Any advice is welcomed at this point. I'm going to be learning as I go.

Etsy Shop News - After careful consideration, prayer and advice from my husband, it appears that my Etsy shop will be back up and running again with PayPal in a couple days. I am scheduled to talk with my accountant at the bank in the morning for the last bit of advice I need. I suspect that I should have everything back to normal by the end of the week, providing that PayPal cooperates.

Totally Random

I haven't updated here in a while, so I thought I would really quickly before I head to bed.

Lately I've been taking a break from solely creating things for my Etsy shop or to sell at a local sale. I can't tell you the pressure that has lifted from my shoulders. My natural creativity is returning bit by bit....thankfully. I really thought I'd lost it forever there for a while.

So now I've been busy knitting and creating Christmas presents. I plan to make almost every single present I'm giving this year. I'm also giving myself a nice new scarf, maybe two depending on the time. I have felt so much better about creating things now.

So I'm still at a crossroad deciding what or how I'll continue with the shop side of Creative Radiance. Somehow I'm sure this has something to do with my walk with Christ; I just haven't quite figured it out yet. I'm in a part of my journey that doesn't seem clear or unclear, more like open. I feel a new sense of openness and possibility that wasn't there before.

Ok before I ponder this to death, I'm going to hop off here and head to bed. Tomorrow is after all Sunday and I am scheduled to teach in oh....8 hours.

Have I Lost That Freedom Thing?

Ever since the nightmare with PayPal and the creep who decided to use my account instead of their own, I've been wondering about my whole creative side. I started this creative journey with a specific purpose in mind: freedom. I wanted to be free in my creations. I wanted to be able to free myself and let go of my creations. I was on a journey to find myself artistically again.

Somewhere along the way I feel like I've lost that freedom thing. Lately my creative side has became more of a chore and something I was doing simply to make money. Sadly, I haven't made anything to write home about. Sure I'm very thankful for the few things I've sold here and there, but overall this hasn't been a very profitable venture for me.

So in an attempt to find some clarity in all this, I've decided that I'm going to start by making something for myself. I've yet to actually knit, crochet or sew anything for me to wear. There's a long scarf on my needles right now. I'm going to knit this scarf and think about where I want this whole creative thing to go.

I have several projects planned to give as Christmas gifts. I'm going to take a break from making anything new for my Etsy shop till the New Year. I'm sorry if anyone wanted one of my stockings that I'd been promising. At this time, I just need to take a creative break. Maybe I need to pick up a paint brush again or scrapbook something. I don't know, but I'm going to find out.

Etsy Shop News

As of right now my Etsy shop is open again with a new payment policy. At this time I am only accepting payment by check or money order. I regret that this is the only way I can accept payment, but the hacking into my PayPal account has left me no other choice. Payment will have clear the bank first before I'll be able to ship out any products.

I've been working on clearing up my PayPal and bank account all week. It is very frustrating and time consuming. Not to mention that the fees from my bank have been piling up. The company where the fraudulent charges came from is being slow as well. I just sent them an email trying to hurry them up. I'm determined to have everything taken care of by Friday.

This entry has not an ounce of creativity in it. *sighs*

We're Back....But Not my Etsy Shop

Hi everyone. We had an amazing vacation. It was nice relaxing and very uneventful....exactly what we needed. Things were going great when we got back and then....

B A M !!!!

I check my email and find a little over $800 worth of fraudulent charges from PayPal. I could barely believe my eyes. Apparently someone decided to use my PayPal account to purchase some big ticket items from a gaming and model car design website. The issue has since been resolved and I stopped the transactions before any money left my account. (Thank you Lord) But......

I'm afraid by stopping PayPal from accessing my account, I won't be able to have my Etsy shop up and running. I'm not sure if this is permanent or what. I am deeply saddened that this has happened. I loved my Etsy shop and was very loyal to it. I'll either have to find some other means of payment or else not sell anything online again.

So what does that mean for the items I have for sale? I really have no idea. I guess unless you are local or want to send a money order then I can't sell anything. If anyone has any experience with this, please share.

Saturday I attempted another local sale. I gave out a lot of cards and received some requests for dog sweaters. Since this blog is my main source of advertising, I'm planning on making it more like an interactive website. I do own some website space, so in the near future you may find links here to an actual website. It will take time to get everything put together though and I must weigh out the benefits of the site versus the time I'll need to spend making it. If any of you have any ideas, please share them. I'm on a mission to get my name out there and get more business.

A note about my Etsy shop: If you find yourself not wanting to purchase an item through my Etsy shop, I can send you an invoice through PayPal. If you are a local customer and wish to work out other arrangements please contact me via Conversations at Etsy or via email. Girls' Sweater - Size 3-6 months (A local custom order)

Circle-n-Cross Rose Scarf (measures 6 inches wide by 48 inches long)This is a very unique scarf made from a nice super soft chunky acrylic yarn. It's machine washable and dryable. I'm offering it for $20 in my Etsy shop.

Socks (0-12 months)

Socks will range in prices. I offer the 0-12 month size for $2 a pair. These will be posted periodically in my Etsy shop. I'll be offering a few more baby/toddler sizes soon. Eventually I'll be offering some adult sizes as well.

Cabled Coffee Cozy/Cuff - Dress up the coffee cup and protect your fingers with this reusable cozy. Offered in the colors shown below. $3 each

Natural Blues Basketweave Knitted Purse This purse features a nice blend of blues and naturals and textured pattern. It actually started out as a wide scarf. The longer it became the more and more I envisioned it as a cute purse. So I made the necessary adjustments, add a tab top and a vintage button to create a cute soft purse. The strap is 19 inches and is 11 inches side to side by 7.5 inches top to bottom. It's offered in my Etsy shop for only $12.

Rainbow Waves Blanket - Toddler/Child Size (45 by 37 inches) - $45 Heavyweight blanket

Custom Orders
If you would like a custom item to be made for Christmas, all of those orders must be received by DECEMBER 1st. Unless otherwise quoted, all Christmas Custom items will be shipped by December 10th.

Learning

Over the past two weeks or so I've been learning a lot of new knitting stitches. I've been amazed at all the things I've been able to make simply by just trying them out. It's been a great experience to find new patterns and ideas. I thought I'd give you a sneak peak of the things I've worked on this week. I expect to be finished with my next cardigan set by tomorrow evening. I'll have detailed pics of those when I am finished.

Next week I'll be working on my next cardigan set and will be making some new posts to my Etsy shop. So be on the lookout for those.

I'm pleased to announce I just received my first local custom order. She saw my work at my recent local sale and picked up a card. I'll be making two sweater, bootie and cap sets for two sweet little ones, one of which arrived yesterday.

I'm feeling very blessed today and felt the need to share my thankfulness.

Thank you Father for your wonderful blessings on me. In my most desparate of times, You know just what I have need of. You are indeed my Jehovah Jireh.

Sneak Peeks

I've been learning a few new stitches in knitting. My skills are getting much better and I'm excited at the possibilities. Here's a few sneak peak photos for you.

Here's a basketweave stitch. This will be a knitted purse soon. I'll be making a matching scarf too. I think I might keep the scarf for myself though since I'm in love with the colors.

Here's my cable stitch. Soon I'll be making some knitted coffee cup cozies. This stitch will also show up in a few fall scarves too.

Weekly News

My local sale was pretty much a bust on Saturday. This is the first time that I've ever set up a shop at this particular location so this was a trial and error kind of thing. I definately figured out my market on Saturday, which is progress. Several people took my cards and showed some genuine interest in buying a baby cardigan, hat and mitten/sock set. I'm going to be offering those sets for $30-$35. LOL, I have three to make right now, so I'd better get started on those soon.

After posting the custom bag to my Etsy shop, someone contacted me about making another one. So I'll be working on that soon as well.

As for this week and next, I'll only be crocheting and knitting when I can. I'm watching Baby Jasmine for a few days (and overnight) while her mother has a surgerical procedure done. So my hubby and I will be playing mommy and daddy for a while. Later this week and mid-week the following week, we'll be keeping our goddaughter overnight while her baby brother has some procedures and doctor visits. Sometime I need to finish my "26" scrapbook page because my birthday is a week from Friday. I'll try to post that before my birthday.

Ok I'm off to finish laundry, dinner and some general cleaning. Thanks to everyone for your notes of encouragement. I really appreciate them.

Custom Tote Bag and Local Sale

I'm pleased to say that I completed the custom tote bag that was ordered recently. I thought I'd show that here. I must say that working with denim on such a large bag was trying at times. I'm so very thankful that my father in law fixed my old Singer machine before I began this project. My good ol' Brother machine wouldn't have been able to sew through the layers of denim, canvas and cotton fabric.

Info on the Bag: The bag has one outside pocket and three pockets inside. There's a large pocket on one inside and 2 small pockets on the other side of the inside. All the pockets are reinforced with cotton canvas to make them more durable. I took two pictures of the insides, but I turned the bag inside out so you could see it all. The bag actually is reversible, if you'd ever want to use it that way. The bag is hanging from a hook in all the pictures.

I've been working this week on some more of the newborn sets so that I can sell them in my little shop tomorrow. There never seems to be enough time to complete all the projects I have in my mind. LOL, maybe I'll get there sometime. I already know that I'll have very little time to complete any projects next week. August is going to be a busy month for me.

I'm so excited about the projects I have lined up for the fall. I will begin those in late August/early September.

Remember I'll be at the open farmer's market tomorrow (Sat. 8/9) at the Hall Park in Andrews, NC. My sale starts at 8am and ends at 11:30am or until I sell out.

Local Sale and Newborn Sets EDIT

Saturday August 2nd I'll be setting up a small booth at our local open farmer's market from 8am -12 noon. It is held at the Hall Park right outside the Post Office here in Andrews, NC. If you are in the area, I'd appreciate you stopping by to visit. I'll be featuring the items I have left in my spring and summer collection.

I'll have a new regular addition to my shop...newborn sets. I have a few crocheted samples to show you. These will be for sale at the sale tomorrow. If I don't sell them, I'll post them to my Etsy shop soon.

Here's the whole set with the matching blanket. It's a bit hard to see the colors here. It's a white base with very pale pastel colors mixed throughout.

Here's the new newborn set. I'll have them available in a variety of colors. This is the first set I've made so far.

This is the last blanket of the spring/summer collection. I'm calling it Muted Variety.

These are mittens that can be adjusted with the tiny ties at the wrist.

The tiny newborn socks with the coordinating color band to match the set.

**EDIT** Here's the pic of the hat that I promised. It's just so sweet. I keep admiring it over and over again. I'm imagining the smell of the little newborn head that will be in it one day.

The newborn set that will probably most popular as a gift item. I'm thinking about doing sets in infant and toddler sizes.

Next week I'll begin working on the fall collection, which will include scarves and hats in all sizes. If you would like something custom made, please be sure to get your orders in so I can get them finished on time.

Lately I've been catching up in the creative area of life. I finally finished the blanket for Adrian's baby. I'm pleased to announce that she LOVED it ! Her reaction thrilled me. And for your viewing pleasure I'll include the video below. LOL..surprise Adrian

Here's a few photos for your viewing pleasure.

As promised I'll also show a few pics of the blanket I have for sale. It is similar to Adrian's blanket but different because it has a band of white with bands of color in the middle. This blanket will be posted in my Etsy shop very soon.

I'm also working on some burp cloth and bibs. Some of these will be offered as sets and others will be sold as seperates. Here's a sneak peak at a couple bibs. I'll have matching burp cloths by the end of the day. Be on the lookout for these in my shop as well. (FYI: I'm also working on a rag quilt with the frog fabric and some solids.)

(Oops it looks like these need to be ironed out a bit. I'll take care of that before posting them to my shop.)

And after teaching Adrian some digital scrapbook tricks on Photoshop, I've been working more pages. My styles are constantly evolving, but I'm really pleased with where my pages have been going lately. I'll share some of those soon in a post all by theirselves.

Life Keeps Flying By...

This summer has been flying by so fast. It seems that everyday things have put a strain on my creative life. I have finally finished the baby blanket for Adrian. I'm giving it to her this weekend before we go to the Deeper Still Conference in Atlanta. I'm excited to see her reaction and admittedly a little scared too. I hope she likes it. I've scrutinized every aspect of this blanket wanting it to be just perfect. I even made two blankets because the first one just didn't cut it for me. I like the last one, I'm just not super in love with it. And that bothers me. But I believe it's just the ugly perfectionist coming out in me. I must tame this.

I haven't had any time for scrapping lately. But here and there I've been working on the journaling for a layout that I'm doing. There's a song by Vicky Beeching called "26 Summers". It is a testimony of her life at her 26th year. I'm coming to the end of my 26th year and felt it was the perfect source of inspiration for a page. I am hoping to have some downtime soon to devote to that page.

After I return home from my girls only weekend, I'll do a picture post of Adrian's blanket, the new one for sale and hopefully some pics that I've been working on.

Memorial Day Weekend

This past weekend I've spent a lot of time getting used to using a new version of Photoshop (and a new version of Windows too). It's interesting how many features are the same, but so different at the same time. I have a lot of work to do to get all my favorite brushes loaded. It'll be another week or so before I have anything new to post from my latest toy.

I baked and decorated a cake for my godson's birthday and his dad's college graduation. I admit that I had a terrible time getting the butter cream frosting to the perfect consistency and ended up having to buy pre-made frosting. I have yet to get that frosting the way I want it. This time I believe the temperature of my home had a lot to do with it. I'm not going to be making anymore frosting or decorating anymore cakes during the summer time. It's just too much work to get everything looking perfect, which is something that I MUST do. I wasn't extremely pleased with the cake this weekend. The cake was absolutely yummy, but it wasn't the prettiest thing. I'll just stick to cooking and baking from now on and leave the decorating to someone else.

I've been inspired lately to get out and take some more random pictures. I'm still editting some of the ones that I promised a few weeks ago. I hope to get those posted soon. One of those pictures has inspired a painting that I'll be unveiling soon. It's a very 'now' painting; simply graphic with vivids colors. Another one of the photos will be a new icon for me for the summer. A little sneak peak....it involves flip flops and lots of colors.

Kodak.com is having an excellent sale on photos this week. I plan on cashing in on this sale and getting LOADS of prints, which should result in several scrapbook pages (eventually). I have at least a year worth of photos to print out. *oops*

My final project for this week will be some handmade scripture cards for the graduates. I couldn't afford to buy all of them gifts, so I decided to personalize something for each of them. I can't think of a better thing to give them than inspiration, encouragement, and wisdom from the Word. We have a huge class graduating from our youth ministry this year. We sure will miss them all once these teens go off to college in the fall.

Alright I think the update creative blog part of my to-do list is complete now.

National Scrapbooking Day and 'The Blanket'

In honor of National Scrapbooking Day I made a layout without any prior planning today. I must say that it was difficult to make because I kept getting distracted by all sorts of things. You'd be amazed at how many people call you, text you or come to see you when you are either busy trying to be creative or in bed sick (which was my case yesterday). Anywho, it took me literally all day, but I finally got my page completed. Here it is...

Now onto the details about 'The Blanket'. Before I explain about this particular piece I have a question for you all. Have you ever began a project that you absolutely LOVED until....well until you added just one more thing.....and then you absolutely HATED it? Well that's what happed to this particular blanket. I can't go into too much detail or even show pictures yet, because I still plan to use some of the colors and techniques on the next one. I had originally planned to give this blanket to Adrian for her baby that's on the way, but now I'm thinking not. I do love the colors and the idea of this blanket, but something went terribly wrong in the original design right smack dab in the middle. My mother LOVED it when she saw it today, my hubby thinks it's great, heck my mother in law even likes it, but I just simply don't. I can't possibly give my closest and most dear relative something that I don't absolutely adore.

So what to do with said blanket? Sell it ! I want rid of it as soon as possible. It's a nice warm sturdy blanket that would be a treat to most anyone. There's nothing wrong with the blanket. It just didn't turn out the way I wanted it to and kinda makes me a bit angry and disappointed with myself to look at it.

If anyone is interested in looking at it, I'll show it to you personally via email. I won't be posting this to my Etsy shop, because Adrian has access to this blog and I don't want to spoil anything for her. If you are local, I'll be taking this blanket to sell at the local arts and crafts mall soon. I'll let everyone know the date of that before I go.

So tomorrow my afternoon plans are to start a new blanket for Adrian's baby. If there's time I may do some more scrapbooking, probably a digital page the next time.
